Beyond our extensive facilities, services and amenities to host visiting sports teams and events, Richmond enjoys the benefit of an abundance of modern recreation facilities, parks and trails which contribute to a healthy active community and being crowned "Canada's Healthiest City" by Canadian Living magazine.
The year round use of these amenities is enhanced by the temperate climate enjoyed by Richmond. Unlike other parts of Canada the West Coast gets little snow, and Richmond averages 30 percent less rain than nearby Vancouver!
Richmond combines a rich maritime and agricultural history with a dynamic multi-cultural community and world-class contemporary facilities and connections. Come and share our excellent restaurants, shopping, unique historical sites, parks and gardens, cultural and entertainment facilities, and fishing, boating and whale watching tours. Richmond's signature visitor attractions include:
- Steveston’s Historic Fishing Village, providing the world with salmon since the 1882;
- Two national historic sites, The Britannia Heritage Shipyard Park and the Gulf of Georgia Cannery;
- Richmond's extensive Asian shopping and award-winning restaurants;
- Richmond Olympic Oval;
- Minoru Park and Minoru Chapel.
And when you have come to know Richmond, make it a base for exploring downtown Vancouver and the rest of BC. Home to the airport, close to ferries to Vancouver Island and now with rapid transit Skytrain direct to Vancouver, use the time between games to easily explore Stanley Park, Granville Island and beaches, the UBC campus and forest trails, with the North Shore mountains and ski hills a "seabus" ride across the harbour.
For a convenient and printable summary of the attractions of Richmond, read and download Richmond Sports Council's "Richmond the City" (click here) guide for sport event visitors.
General information on the attractions of Richmond is also available at the City's on-line tourism guide (click here) and from Tourism Richmond.
